Volunteering on the Greenway

September 18, 2009

On Monday 28 September the Secretariat of the Commission for a Sustainable London 2012, along with colleagues from the Olympic Delivery Authority, LOCOG and Epoch spent the day volunteering on the Greenway. We sanded and painted railings, cleared bindweed, picked litter and added layers to an insect refuge.

The Greenway runs from Wick Lane in Tower Hamlets to Beckton and during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games the Greenway will be the closest access point for getting to and from the Olympic Park from West Ham Station, one of the main gateway stations to the Park. It is a stretch of East London that is a haven for wildlife (and tyres and shopping trolleys visible at low tide!).

The volunteering session was organised by the London Wildlife Trust who are working to transform the Greenway into a safe, clean and attractive park for people and wildlife. Read more about the London Wildlife Trusts’ work on the Greenway
