Commissioner Melba Palhazy to be a Torchbearer

Commissioner Melba Palhazy has been selected to be a Torchbearer for the Olympic Games and will be carrying the flame through Havering on the 22nd July 2012.

The Olympic Flame arrived in the UK on May 18th and is now being carried by 8,000 inspirational Torchbearers in a relay across the UK. It will arrive at the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games on July 27th. Melba was nominated for her commitment to social inclusion and equality of opportunity for young people and their families. She is committed to community regeneration, working with diverse communities in deprived areas and has led on a number of community development initiatives.

Melba said “This is such an honour and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, I feel privileged to be involved. I was already excited to be nominated but to actually be chosen by the panel was quite unbelievable and the support of friends, family and colleagues has been great”
