Comment on All we are saying… by Bridgit A Sam-Bailey http://www.cslondon.org/2012/07/all-we-are-saying/#comment-294 Bridgit A Sam-Bailey Fri, 03 Aug 2012 17:10:55 +0000 http://www.cslondon.org/?p=2423#comment-294 The mood at the moment seems very positive, and the negativities that were prevalent prior to the start of the games have vanished. My question is, as an older Londoner, what will be the legacy for us after the games. I was very happy to see the transformation of the area resulting from the decision to hold the games in that area, but it would please me very much to see some of the facilities in the village designated for the use of our older people. We have contributed in more ways than one, and we need recognition, which so far has eluded us. Certainly some of the accommodation could be set side for low cost housing where older people can live with dignity. It is all too easy for corporates to to use their considerable power and influence to deflect criticisms rather than deal with concerns head on. There are examples where the opposite is true - but they prove to be the exception rather than the rule. As with the banks, corporate culture is a very difficult thing to influence and effect change. Often there is a feeling of being 'untouchable'. Comment on Carrying a torch for British business by Ian Crossley http://www.cslondon.org/2012/07/carrying-a-torch-for-british-business/#comment-287 Ian Crossley Thu, 02 Aug 2012 15:21:02 +0000 http://www.cslondon.org/?p=2401#comment-287 Shaun - I agree with much of what you say. But should companies that have made a significant contribution to making London 2012 the first 'sustainable' Games be allowed to promote their contribution. Jonathon Porritt said that the future would be sustainable or not at all - if we have companies here that are cutting edge in sustainability, shouldn't we be shouting about this for the benefit of both London 2012 and the UK's future economic prospects? I'd welcome your comments. Shaun – I agree with much of what you say. The GLA City Operations team has separately been certified to BS 8901 for city events during the Games such as the main live sites. In addition several other venues have been certified to BS 8901, or are in the process of getting certified. The BS 8901 certification applies to all of LOCOG’s operations in staging the Games.
