Recommendation
That the Olympic Park Legacy Company develops an integrated waste and energy strategy for the legacy developments on the Olympic Park. This should use organic waste to derive biogas and maximise the renewable energy available to the legacy communities and facilities, with the ultimate aim of creating an exemplar zero carbon community in the Lower Lea Valley. Local employment opportunities should be considered as part of this strategy. [This recommendation builds on and takes forward earlier recommendations in the 2007 and 2008 Annual Reviews]

The LLDC has taken the decision not to pursue an organic waste to energy scheme following consideration of the opportunities and challenges involved. It is doing masterplanning work with the surrounding boroughs, the GLA and the Institute for Sustainability. The concept is not ruled out in the long term but is not being pursued now. Not Achieved

A feasibility study on waste and energy is being conducted into a potential project that could deliver this and the OPLC are working with partner organisations to assess the opportunities and the challenges involved. This will also be dependent on the review of the LMF being undertaken by the OPLC. A sustainability strategy is being produced by the OPLC which should incorporate this. Progress Made
