Recommendation

That there is clear integration of sustainability objectives into the early design stages for the remaining developments and ongoing projects of all the Key Stakeholders. This is in order to prevent the need to alter designs to build in sustainability criteria or retrofit at a later stage as this may lead to increased cost and consumption of resources.

Progress Made

This recommendation has been implemented by the ODA and by LOCOG. Complete. The Legacy Communities Scheme includes sustainability objectives for future developments. Sustainability is included in tender specifications and the evaluation of them. Following a concern raised by the Commission, the stadium design team now includes a sustainability expert. This recommendation remains open at the end of the Commission as the LLDC takes forward the legacy of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and surrounding area. Progress Made

Progress Made

This recommendation has been implemented by the ODA and by LOCOG. Complete. Projects that weren't part of the original programme, for example the Orbit, were late to apply sustainability to their designs but have been subsequently required to meet the programme standards. The LLDC has begun to apply it. There were initial concerns over their level of engagement with transformation issues when these were being managed by the ODA but these are being resolved now that the LLDC is responsible for transformation.
